Still decent but not at the level of previous visits: Restaurant Hopfenau (6. February 2023)
It is almost a year ago since I’ve last been to the Hopfenau, but it was definitely worth going back to! I went for the “soup of the day (chickpeas and mushrooms soup)” (CHF 11.00), which was nice and light and enjoyable. One can argue if chickpeas and mushrooms should account for CHF 11.00, but it was still in the range of ‘prices fairly’.
As a main, I went for the “char filet on spinach risotto with lemon sauce” (CHF 39.50), which I liked since the spinach risotto was complemented nicely by the lemon sauce! However, in all fairness, the char was a bit too dry for my personal gusto, and definitely not big enough to count as a main course. From what I can recall from my last visit, the cuisine had done better.
In any case, the interior decoration is simple yet appealing (maybe besides the Trump-look-a-like bust) and the service …
… is friendly and attentive, making sure you have everything you need and want. And on top of that they are jovial, but not unprofessional! Which is quite a lovely combination!
To sum it up, I still like the Hopfenau as a restaurant for dinner, but I must admit that my expectations (due to previous experiences) were higher!
