An interesting 2 Michelin star experience in the restaurant of a beauty clinic: Restaurant Skin’s (1. April 2023)

Not sure how we ended up visiting the Skin’s, but it was definitely interesting to be in a restaurant, which is part of a beauty clinic – or at least started out as this. By now, it’s a 2 Michelin star restaurant, which offers quite a unique and lovely experience. We went for the “7-course tasting menu” (CHF 225.00) with the “wine pairing” (CHF 130.00).

The start of the evening was something called “Skins times 3 with a variety of small amuse bouche like the “skin of the char with citrus and Tom Kha Thai” as well as a few other tasty bites. Definitely a great way to start into the evening.

The second course was “puff pastry bread with nut butter”, which was lovely and definitely helped stuff your stomach a little bit.

The next course was “beetroot at 200 degrees”, which was basically a little assembly of different beetroot elements, which, all together, were quite lovely and nicely intense in their flavour.

The first real course was the “Ring of Zen (bonito, shisho, BBQ eel)” paired with a glass of “Molitor, Pinot Blanc, Thronje, 2020”. I must say, that I quite liked the dish. Especially the bbq eel was something a bit out of the ordinary and quite enjoyable.

Especially when you added some sauce on top of it, i.e., in the middle of the ring, it was even tastier. It didn’t look prettier, but it was tastier.

The next course was the “queen of the deep sea (carabinero, jalapeño, cauliflower)” paired with a glass of “Pazo de Senorans, Albarino Coleccion, 2017”. And while I always enjoy a good carabinero, I must say, this one wasn’t as good as the ones I’ve recently had the pleasure to enjoy when being in Portugal.

The “sea floater” (ray, horseradish, beurre blanc)” paired with a glass of the “Istvan Szepsy, Tokaj, Furmint, 2018” was quite decent. For me, not a dish which created lasting memories, but a nice bite.

The “trumpet royale (herb mushroom, umami, leek vegetables)” paired with “Wegelin, Pinot Noir, Weisstorkel, 2019” was an interesting combination. Despite the fact that the dish was vegetarian, it turned out ot be one of my favourite dishes that evening. The combination of flavours and textures just made it a marvellous dish. The Pinot Noir, on the other hand, was not really a wine I would order again.

The “flight to the bazaar” (dove, vadouvan, chick pea)” paired with “J.P. Gaussen, Bandol ‘Longue Garden’, 2012” was good. I mean, the quality of the dove was nice and not chewy at all, which it all too often is!

The “blue buffalo (bintje potato, pickled vegetables, belly bacon)” paired with a glass of “Thurnhof, Cabernet Sauvignon, Weinegg, 2016” was somewhat nice, but also somewhat ‘special’, when it comes to flavour. I mean, I personally enjoy strong flavours quite a lot, but I must admit that this one wasn’t my absolute favourite.

The pre-dessert on the other hand, the “walnut cream with salad and salad sorbet” was definitely something unusual. I mean, I defintiely have never had a salad sorbet, so this was new! And I enjoyed it surprisingly much!

The last course was a”bushes and berries (hazelnut from Piedmont, currant)” paired with a glass of “Justino’s Madeira Sercial 10 years” and I must say, it worked quite well as a dish and was truly enjoyable.

The last course before the petit fours was a “chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream” and it definitely looked nice, if one would only like chocolate.

Last but not least, the “petit fours” were quite nice as well – almost too much food at this point in time, but definitely enjoyable. Especially these little creamy thingies at the top were quite delicious.

The place itself is nice, spacious, offers enough privacy, and is definitely modern and nicely designed. The choice of pictures is a bit of a special one, but hey, whatever rocks your boat.

All in all, I liked the experience in the Skin’s. Not sure if I would give it two Michelin stars or more one, but all in all it was a nice evening with good food, but it came at quite a price.
