Quite a disappointing breakfast selection compared to earlier years: Café Imperial @ Hotel Imperial Vienna (8. April 2023)
I have had great memories of the breakfast in the Hotel Imperial, hence, my expectations were sky-high! This was definitely a big mistake, because the subsequent disappointment was quite massive.
I mean, it is not like you don’t get breakfast here, but I really don’t see the hype. They used to have amazing things like foie gras and what not. And now, it’s a very, very regular breakfast selection.
Ranging from jams to bread …
… a few cold cuts and cheeses …
… more bread …
… as well as some fruit and mueslis. Sure, nothing bad, but definitely also nothing, which would make you come back.
What was kind of the biggest disappointment was the waiting time for the egg dish. I went for an omelet with pumpkin seed oil on a piece of bread – and it took them a solid 25 minutes to prepare it. And sure, there was no reason to rush since it was Easter holiday, but it felt like an eternity to get the egg dish. And then, it was good, but also far from exceptional.
All in all, the Café Imperial breakfast was a disappointment. Not sure what happened – if it was Covid, if it was ESG-related, or if it was just cost optimization, but the breakfast was definitely very far from what my memory of how the place was.
