The disappointment when it was just so much better in your memory: Restaurant Meierei im Stadtpark (11. April 2023)
I have good memories of the Meierei im Stadtpark, so, obviously expectations were high-ish. Turns out, that these were only partially fulfilled. Once we were seated, it took them quite a while to, firstly, bring the menu, and, secondly, to come and take up the order. A pity really, but at least this was partially compensated by the bread and the really nice butter.
As a starter, I had the “leg meat soup with semolina dumplings and carrot” (EUR 7.90), which was a bit different than I had expected. My expectation was something around getting small pieces of meat in your soup. Turns out this was very much not true, and you would get one massive piece of meat in the broth. Not bad, but a bit different.
The “sturgeon with wild broccoli” (EUR 28.50) was decent in terms of taste. And while I absolutely adore wild broccoli, this version of wild broccoli was not really the best I’ve had in my life. Quite the opposite. I mean, still quite decent, but the way it was prepared, it was really not too tasty. So, from a food experience, I think I should have stuck to the traditional Viennese dishes instead of ‘trying something different’.
The interior of the place is quite nice, especially if you get a table by the window, so you get to observe the people walking by. While the service was super friendly and tried its best, it was a bit of a disappointment because all too often, nobody was there, and you had to wait quite a bit. It felt a bit like we’ve been coming in during the change of shifts, which usually causes a few minutes of non-optimal service.
All in all, the Meierei im Stadtpark is still a decent address, but compared to when I was here the last time, it didn’t feel like the whole thing improved (rather the opposite).
