7. July 2011: Ristorante Napoli da Gerardo

| July 24, 2011 | 0 Comments

Somewhat high-priced but quite good Italian food is what you get at the Ristorante Napoli da Gerardo. The mozzarella of the Insalate Caprese (CHF 14.50) is soft and tasty, the tomatoes were a bit boring but in combination with the mozzarella, it was quite good.

The main course, a Filetto di Manzo (beef filet; CHF 53.00) was tender and cooked to the point requested, the vegetables were okay too. One of us had a Scalopine Napoletana (CHF 41.00) and wanted it without tomatoes but with everything (mozzarella, anchovies, …) but just got the plain meat. Although they corrected it quickly after we told them, she still had to wait for some minutes and therefore, we couldn’t eat all together.

As a desert we got a bowl of water melon just like that – the melonw as fresh and tasty. Definitely a good ending; together with a double espresso (CHF 6.00).

The atmosphere of the restaurant is somewhat nice – it is absolutely oldishly furnished, has a lot of pictures hanging on the walls and seems to been have built in the 70ies or earlier (as it probably was).

The starting to the evening was nice as we got a nice table, were offered a glass of champagne right away but then it slightly changed – we had to wait for more than 10 minutes in order to get our menus which is definitely too long, additionally it always took them quite some time until they came to our table to take our orders.

Overall, the dishes in the Ristorante Napoli da Gerardo are pretty good, the atmosphere is nice and oldish, the prices are on the upper limit but at least the food is good. The wine menu, on the other hand, has some nice bottles to offer, e.g. a Summus, 2006 (CHF 81.00). The only downside in the Ristorante Napoli da Gerardo is the service – I don’t know if it is always like that, but if it is, then it is unsatisfactory.

In the end, the Ristorante Napoli da Gerardo is definitely a good place to go, generally speaking but the prices are comparatively high and the services is friendly but has a lof of room for improvement. The lack in professionality of service changes my recommendation a bit: Go there, but wait a few months until they know what they’re doing.
