An absolutely lovely Georgian food experience – my first: Restaurant Tsomi (15. April 2023)
I think I’ve never really tried Georgian cuisine, so, I was quite excited to give it a try and ordered quite a few items to dig into. The “chartscho (traditional Georgian beef pot with rice, served with puri)” (EUR 9.00) was sold to me as a starter. When looking at the size and the amount of soup there was, then it was definitely a very generous starter. That being said, it also turned out to be a tasty starter.
The “chinkali (beef and pork meat, coriander)” (EUR 11.00) are interesting because of the way you eat them. You have to hold them by that little thing, turn them around, bite into it, drink the broth which is within the dumplings, and then eat the rest. The little end you leave as is and let it go back. Now, eating these thingies was definitely fun and an interesting experience. However, in terms of flavour and taste, the chinkali is not necessarily something I would need to try again.
The “cheese chatschapuri” (EUR 14.00) is something like a pizza and calzone combination, but not quite. I mean, it’s basically kind of a pizza from the form, but it has something like a filling, so it is more a calzone, but then it’s very different again. So, not sure, what it is – I mean, obviously, a chatschapuri, but it is definitely worth trying.
There is also an “open chatschapuri with cheese and egg” (EUR 15.00), where they mix the bubbling hot cheese with the egg …
… so you get a cheese-egg mixture in your chatschapuri. And man, this bite was absolutely amzing. Sure, the dish is heavy, so maybe don’t get too much if you’re eating alone, but if you’re a few people, it’s definitely worth sharing it.
The place is quite simple, but it’s convenient and leaves you enough space to have some privacy when talking. The staff is friendly and generally attentive (forgetting something small here and there). All in all though, if you have never tried Georgian cuisine, then I can definitely recommend you to try the Tsomi. Since the place was quite crowded when we were eating here, I would highly recommend you to book your table well in advance.
