Definitely a place worth returning to, and a place deserving to be in The World’s 50 Best MENA: Restaurant Jun’s (28. April 2023)

| June 25, 2023 | 0 Comments

It’s about one month ago since I’ve last been to the Jun’s, and I was actually looking forward to trying it again, as the last time it was rather stressful to be there (as I had to rush for the airport). This time, I went for the “rainbow heirloom carrots (smoked labneh, soy honey butter, candied walnuts, sourdough)” (70.00 AED) first, which were somehow simple, but equally tasty. Especially, the combination of the labneh and the soy honey butter went really well together.

The “kimchi heirloom tomato burrata (pesto, French heirloom tomatoes, aged kimchi, fresh kimchi)” (95.00 AED) was equally interesting. I mean, I would never have thought of mixing burrata and tomatoes with kimchi, but it definitely was a great experience.

As the last starter, I went for the “wagyu strip loin beef tartar (Szechuan bone marrow, chicharron, kimchi, 63 degree egg)” (115.00 AED), which was mixed in front of you. And while it didn’t look that special, it actually turned out to be quite a delicious piece of food. The combination of ingredients would probably make you argue if this was a ‘true beef tatar’, but it was a tasty one. And, ultimately, that’s what counts!

The “chilli chicken (kashmiri chilli, boriva chilli, chicken thigh, Szechuan peppercorn, jalapeño)” (80.00 AED) was on the spicy side of things, but it was enjoyable. A bit too much after all this food, to be honest, but nice, since the quality of the meat was decent, and the seasoning was enjoyable.

As always, when I see broccolini on the menu, I have to try it, so I went for the “garlic broccolini (roasted garlic cloves, lemon, broccolini)” (50.00 AED), which was not only delicious in flavour, but also in consistency and seasoning. Frankly, a great version of broccolini.

The high ranking in many food rankings of the world, like Gault Millau or The World’s 50 Best, is well-deserved. They are offering a great food experience in a lovely setting and with exquisite service.

Surprisingly, to me, it doesn’t seem like you need to book your table in advance as there always seems to be some space. Sure, the place is quite big, but it is also rather good and central, so, I’m genuinely surprised you don’t have to book more.
