Locally sourced, creating absolutely memorable experience: Restaurant Teible (29. April 2023)

Teible offers something unique, as they ensure that they have for each dish a local ingredient (or more than one), which is, frankly speaking, quite surprising. They are also dedicated to be sustainable, which is great, but always surprises me when I am in Dubai (since it’s not exactly a place I personally consider sustainable). Once I had ordered what I wanted, I was served “barley miso kelp with sourdough bread”, and while I absolutely loved the spread and the bread was great, it was also soaked in oil or butter, which was not entirely to my enjoyment.

The actual first starter, the “koji corn (corn from Al Ain, feta, labneh, koji, corn, chilli)” (77.00 AED) was exquisite. Sure, a bit heavy on the labneh side, but it was a great bite. I especially liked the corn flavour and the intensity of it. It was nicely balanced by the labneh, and the chilli gave it that little extra. And surprisingly enough, it went super well on these nice crackers.

One of my absolute favourites was the “fermented hummus (aubergine from Sharjah, chickpeas miso, tahini, chives, harrisa, sourdough pita)” (64.00 AED). I was a bit sceptical upfront, since I thought it would be too smokey, or it would just somehow not really be that enjoyable. Turns out, though, that this was absolutely amazing! The flavours, the freshness, the intensity but with the right level of smoothness, just went perfectly together.

I also enjoyed the “fish mosaic (seasonal fish from the Arabian Sea, buttermilk dill, celery, green pea)” (86.00 AED) a lot. It looked a bit boring at first, but turned out to be delicious. Especially in combination with the peas and the buttermilk dill sauce, it was exquisite. The “elote (corn from Al Ain, tahini, feta cheese, peppers)” (22.00 AED, but only 18.00 AED on the bill) was not easy to eat if you didn’t want to use your hands, but it was absolutely great in terms of flavour combination. And I just love corn, so it was even better.

I was also quite looking forward to my “fermented chilli sauce (green mango and green chilli from Sharjah, green mango, green chilli, garlic, olive oil, cumin)” (5.00 AED), which was supposed to be green (since it was supposed to be produced with green chilli), but turned out to be red chilli. And while I do not like the fact that something else than what I had ordered is served, I must say that I personally prefer red chilli, so I was quite happy about it. It was nicely spicy, so a little bit of spice here and there was just about right. But, in all fairness, it would be way too much to finish off the whole thing.

The place is located right next to the Jameel Arts Centre, and it shows in its interior design. It’s modern, spacious, and just very orderly. So, the interior is absolutely great and highly recommended visiting.

On top of that, the staff is also super friendly and attentive. The waitress, who was responsible for me, made sure that I had everything at all times – absolutely outstanding service. To me, the Teible is a bit of a discovery, since they offer locally sourced ingredients, delicious dishes, in a great atmosphere, with exquisite service. Hence, absolutely a place you should visit when in Dubai!
