Varying quality of the dishes with caring service in a nice atmosphere: Restaurant Gonpachi (29. April 2023)

| June 27, 2023 | 0 Comments

The Gonpachi was recommended to me by a friend, and I was curious to try it out. Hence, I tried a few different dishes starting with “karaage (fried chicken)” (72.00 AED), which looked nice and had great sauce, but the stuff, which was fried, was more chicken leftovers than actual chicken. So, to be fair, the start wasn’t the best one.

Luckily, the “gonpachi crab & kale Caesar salad” (70.00 AED) was much better. There wasn’t too much king crab in the salad, but at least from a flavour perspective, the dish was much better – and not only that, also from a texture perspective, it turned out to be a quite tasty dish. Not entirely easy to eat with chopsticks, but at least enjoyable.

As a main course, I went for the “ducks and leeks soba – Kamonanban” (95.00 AED). A kind of soup I haven’t tried so far, so I was quite curious how it would be. The soup, i.e., the broth, was absolutely enjoyable, and the pieces of duck were better than expected. The little dumplings, which were part of the soup, were okay as well, but far from outstanding. So, all in all, I would say, it was decent.

If you decide to sit “outside”, the place is quite nice. It looks better in real than in the pictures …

… but this view from inside gives you a bit of an impression of what the general vibe is.

The staff is friendly and attentive, and the waiter, who was taking care of my table, was there at all times. Almost a bit too much, for my personal gusto, but he did a great job. Depending on what you order, the Gonpachi is a good choice – or not so much. The salad was great, the fried chicken definitely not. So, pick your foods, and you’ll be good.
