Tasty dishes in a lovely atmosphere outside under palm trees: Restaurant Habra (10. May 2023)

| July 11, 2023 | 0 Comments

I have been to a restaurant right next to Habra a few months back, and I remembered it as quite a nice and atmospheric area. Hence, I was kind of looking forward to dining again in a similar setting. And the Habra is just that – good food in a nice setting. Once you’re seated, you’re served “bread with sweet and savoury spread” – and that was quite nice.

We then went for a bunch of different dishes to share, which was quite a nice concept. The first dish were the “shredded rib and manchego fries (shredded ribs, home-made siracha mayo, grated manchego cheese)” (68.00 SAR), which were quite intense and heavy to enjoy, but they were also tasty.

The “bone marrow, chimichurri, sourdough (bone marrow, chimichurri, sour dough)” (65.00 SAR) was okay, but the actual marrow was rather little, hence, there wasn’t much to try. And personally, I’ve had better.

The “signature lamb chops (lamb chops on vine leaves with shallot molasses, togarashi spice and sesame)” (70.00 SAR), in my opinion, but then I’m also not the biggest fan of lamb chops, were only decent. But nothing more.

The “short rib tacos, jalapeños curtidos, roasted bell pepper salsa (jalapeño curtido, roasted bell pepper salsa)” (89.00 SAR) on the other hand were delicious. And they had a nice level of spiciness, which was a bit unusual as well – I mean, usually you don’t get the spicy stuff when you’re abroad, but only when you’re in Mexico!

Although the name somehow sounded silly, the “Tendy’s sliders (brioche mini slider buns, 250gr tenderloin, chimi aioli, mild cheddar cheese, mushroom sauce)” (185.00 SAR) were actually great and delicious bites! If we hadn’t ordered enough food already at this point in time, I would definitely have ordered two more of those!

The “charred baby gem salad, miso-salted caramel dressing” (48.00 SAR) was nice – I’m always a bit confused by charred salad, but this version was definitely enjoyable.

The “kale and nori slaw (fresh kale, roasted maple peanuts, kale and nori slaw dressing, dried cranberry)” (38.00 SAR) definitely sounded healthier than it turned out to be. Still, it was a delicious, and relatively vegetable-heavy dish.

The “crispy okra, chermoula aioli” (32.00 SAR) was nice – a bit hard to eat, since the okra were really tiny. If you take it by hand, you get two to three at once only, if you took the fork, then you would make a mess since everything would fall down. So, all in all, it wasn’t optimal to eat, but nice.

Despite their simplicity, I absolutely loved the “roasted baby carrots, maple citrus vinaigrette” (45.00 SAR) since they were quite aromatic and ful lof flavour.

The “mozzarella and kashkawan pide, Boston bibb, sherry vinaigrette” (52.00 SAR) was nice, but not as nice as the …

… “sliced ribs pide (crispy burnt dough with short rib pastrami and herb rémoulade sauce)” (68.00 SAR).

The “chicken skewers” were good, but since they were the last dish to be served, it was somehow almost too much! But the meat was done, but juicy, which not everyone is able to do.

The place is, as mentioned, nice in terms of view. The service was super attentive and friendly, and made sure things were served with almost no time delay. So, when you are looking for a speedy dinner with good food in a nice atmosphere, then the Habra is definitely the place to go!

Besides that, there is a shisha lounge right on top of the Habra, which is perfect to unwind and relax a bit after a rather heavy dinner. Booking in advance doesn’t seem to be an absolute must, but I would say it’s highly recommended!
