A lovely dinner location in the hotel garden by the river: Restaurant Wintergarten @ Brenners Park-Hotel & Spa (28. May 2023)

After walking through the surprisingly pretty city of Baden-Baden for a few hours, the Wintergarten in the Brenners Park-Hotel & Spa is the perfect place for an early dinner. Once you’re seated, you’re served “bread with Café de Paris butter”, which is quite nice.

What I actually liked quite a bit more was the warm starter, i.e., the “Thai curry soup with chilli oil and coriander”, which reminded me of a Tom Kha Gai soup, was just rather uncommon and nice.

We decided to share a “portion of white asparagus from Baden (250gr) produced on the asparagus farm ‘Huber’ from Iffezheim with new potatoes and Sauce Hollandaise” (EUR 31.00) and while it was a nice dish, and the new potatoes with a lot of butter were great, I found the price of about EUR 6.00 per white asparagus just way too much.

The “Viennese veal schnitzel” (EUR 44.00) looked a bit small at first, but it was actually big enough a portion for you to not be hungry when leaving the Wintergarten. And the schnitzel was sufficiently thin and, hence, good in taste and texture.

And in combination with the “potato cucumber salad from Baden”, it was definitely enough. But it was not only enough, it was also tasty. The fact that they had added tiny bacon pieces to the salad really added to that experience of taste.

Usually, the “cranberry sauce” is a bit chunky, which I do not appreciate too much. However, this one was somehow much finer, which worked perfectly with the schnitzel. Loved it.

Finally, it was time for “friandises” and they were all good and enjoyable. The part I don’t get is the number of friandises. If you are more than one, why would you only serve one of each?! A mystery, which will remain unresolved to me.

The place is lovely, especially when you get to sit outside. However, what is key is to get a table in the shades, since else you will definitely be quite dead from all the sun. The staff is doing a great job, making sure you have everything (which worked to a large degree, besides the continuous refilling of the wine glasses (since the bottle was put on another table)). To sum it up, the Wintergarten is a nice place for a tasty dinner worth trying – and necessary to book in advance.
