Same place, same food, very different service experience: Restaurant moriki @ Roomers Hotel Baden-Baden (30. May 2023)
Given after another round of golf at yet another golf course, called Baden-Baden, we felt like having something to eat before leaving Baden-Baden, and so, it was the moriki again. I had ordered Tori Karaage (so like fried chicken), but somehow they served “tori gyoza (5 pieces chicken vegetable dumplings, ponzu)” (EUR 10.00), which I had the previous day. Sure, it was still fine, but I was actually really looking forward to the fried chicken. Given it took them quite a while, i.e., 30 minutes, I didn’t complain since I was hungry and had that as a starter.
After more than 30 minutes, it was finally time for the main course to arrive. And only because I asked two different waiters where our main dishes were. The “miso duck (deep-fried duck, miso sauce, sweet cucumber pickles, rice)” (EUR 24.00) was actually really nice, so, one could say “at least it was ‘worth’ waiting”. And somehow, yes, somehow, no, though. Especially due to the fact that there weren’t too many tables, I do wonder why it took so long to bring the main course.
The portion of rice, which came with the main course, was surprisingly big, which was a bit of a nice change.
The place itself is really lovely – so, when the sun shines, and you’re sitting in the patio of the hotel, where the garden of the moriki is located, it’s all kind of perfect. That is, if the waiter (or the kitchen, hard to say) would be a bit swifter and ensure delivery within a reasonable timeframe.
So, while I was super happy with the service the night before, I was not really that happy with the service the day after for lunch. I suppose, it really depends on who is taking care of you – sometimes the experience is great, sometimes it’s really not.
