A surprisingly nice French brasserie in Amsterdam: Restaurant Brasserie van Baerle (19. June 2023)

| August 6, 2023 | 0 Comments

While the Guide Michelin app was a bit misleading, since it labelled the Brassiere van Baerle as a ‘local restaurant’ and it turned out to be more of a French brasserie (well, yeah, one could have known looking at the name), I must say, it was actually a pleasant experience in a French brassiere, for a change.

Once you’re seated, and, yes, we had to wait a bit to get the menu, you’re served some butter and bread and I must say both were nice – and they went perfectly with my starter.

The “small steak tartare, Pommes allumettes, herbs salad” (EUR 16.00) was a nice way to start dinner. From my perspective, there was no need to put the very dry pommes allumettes onto the beef tartare, but it didn’t necessarily harm the dish either.

The “ravioli with a pea stuffing in a lemon sauce with chanterelles” (EUR 23.00) were actually quite nice – surprisingly nice, one should say. The portion is rather small, though, and in that sense a bit of a disappointment. But I must say, that it was a nice combination of different flavours and textures – so, a very well-prepared main course.

The place is rather tiny, i.e., the tables are close to each other, which makes the whole experience a tiny bit less exciting. But other than that, the place is lovely when we talk interior design, and the staff really takes good care of you (after the initial waiting time for the menu). So, all in all, I can – despite it being a French brasserie – recommend you to visit the Brasserie van Baerle when you’re in Amsterdam.
