An absolutely delicious British lunch experience – after which you need to nap: Restaurant The Ivy Market Grill (27. June 2023)

| August 16, 2023 | 0 Comments

The Ivy Market Grill is located in the middle of Covent Garden and is a place you definitely need to book your table in advance. They are offering a traditional British restaurant experience – small tables, some ‘booths’, and definitely quite a hectic but lively atmosphere. I went for the “steak tartare (hand-cut, grass-fed strip loin steak with chopped shallot, cornichons, parsley, Tabasco and egg yolk served with toasted granary)” (GBP 12.95) as a starter and was quite surprised by the way the toast was served …

… but it does look lovely, and it actually – against my expectations – turned out to be enough bread for the tartare.

As a main, I went for “The Ivy Shepherd’s Pie (slow-braised lamb and beef with Cheddar mash, rosemary and red wine sauce)” (GBP 16.95) and while I think I haven’t eaten anything like this ever, I must admit, it was quite an interesting piece of food, as it was not only tasty, but also had an intensity I can definitely appreciate. It’s a rather heavy dish though, so, if you have intense meetings in the afternoon, then this is maybe not the best choice.

The place is quite lovely, and the service is actually friendly – I mean, it’s not like the super friendly type, but “functionally friendly”, i.e., very transactional, but it works. So, all in all, I would definitely put The Ivy Market Grill on my “to visit again” list.
