Clearly overrated and overpriced – but with a nice terrace: Restaurant Chez Philippe (13. July 2023)
I was looking forward to dining at the Chez Philippe, mainly, because the place was rated quite well, so, I was looking forward to a great meal and started with the “beef heart tomato gazpacho” (CHF 18.00), which was nice in terms of flavour and added texture through the vegetable cubes. However, the size was ridiculously small, so, I found CHF 18.00 for a tiny bit of soup a bit of a rip-off.
But the rip-off feeling even increased when the “tenderloin filet (180gr) (CHF 48.00)” with “sauce béarnaise”, “creamy spinach purée” (CHF 6.00) and “stir-fried green beans with shallots” (CHF 6.00) was served. The size of the meat was definitely not 180gr. I mean, this was the tiniest piece of meat I have seen in a while. And frankly, it wasn’t even really that good. I mean, the meat was prepared more medium-well than medium and the flavour of the meat wasn’t that great either. To be fair though, while the sauce béarnaise was more of a herb butter, at least the side dishes, i.e., the spinach and the beans, were tasty.
The place is truly lovely with the patio it has, and the service does a decent job. However, the prices for what you get are somewhat unacceptable, really. So, frankly, despite the great rating on Google Maps, I would personally not recommend you to dine at the Chez Philippe, not worth the money.
