An exquisite place with excellent service: Restaurant Café des Banques (20. July 2023)

I didn’t have expectations when it comes to having dinner in Geneva because most places didn’t really blow my mind, however, the Café des Banques was a really nice surprise. The place is simple, and if it is warm, it is lovely to sit outside. Once you’re seated, you’re attended quite quickly and get to enjoy a first nibble quite quickly. The amuse bouches were nice and quite refreshing overall.

On top of the amuse bouche, you get even another dish as a complimentary starter. The “tomato cherry gazpacho with burrata” was super refreshing and an interesting combination when it comes to flavour and texture profile.

As an official starter, I went for the “kingfish and fresh almonds (nectarine, myoga, shiso)” (CHF 28.00) and while I was a bit sceptical about seafood, it turned out to be a great dish. I love the way it was presented, especially, since they manage to make it look pretty while it is super delicious at the same time.

Last but not least, I went for the “beef tenderloin from Minder farm in Avenches (herbs sabayon, black shallot, vegetables from our market gardener)” (CHF 62.00) as a main course. Yes, not necessarily on the cheap side of things, to be honest, but, in any case, it turned out to be great in terms of flavour and texture again. The meat was delicious, and so was the combination of flavours and vegetables with which the meat was served.

The little “potatoes” with which the meat was served were actually surprising nice. I mean, sure, they looked quite simple, but it turns out that they were actually tasty and had a nice intensity in their flavour.

Once you’re almost done, you get a couple of chocolates to nibble on – which is quite a lovely ending to a good meal.

On top of the quality of the food, even if not on the cheap side, the service in the Café des Banques is actually exquisite. So, definitely a place you should try when you’re in Geneva.
