Amazing roast beef burger, but overpriced starter and sides: Restaurant PURO – The Social Club (26. July 2023)
Given it is in walking distance from my office and located quite centrally in Zurich, the PURO is a reliable go-to place. As a starter I went for the “gyoza @ teriyaki (Japanese dumplings, filled with edamame, carrots, spring leek, fried crisply and served with a teriyaki sauce and wakame)” (CHF 20.50) and while the portion isn’t huge, and a price of CHF 4.10 per piece seems off (I mean, it is off), it was actually quite delicious.
That day I was informed that their “roast beef burger (finely sliced lukewarm roast beef from the Irish Angus beef in a bun, served with pepper mayo and pickled honey pickles)” (CHF 35.00) was their signature dish. Turns out, I wasn’t aware of that. And turns out, that it was actually a damn good burger! I mean, personally speaking, I would not have expected it to be so tasty! But damn, it was tasty!
The “fresh and sautéed leaf spinach” (CHF 12.00) on the other hand was not only relatively disappointing, but also rather expensive for a bit of spinach!
So, I’m a bit torn after this visit. I found the burger amazing – and the gyozas were great, flavour-wise. However, frankly, I found the prices for the side and the starter off. The waiter was friendly, swift, and professional. So, all in all, the experience is a good one, but it leaves a bit of a sour note, given the prices for some of the items are really not in line.
