Overpriced and underdelivered: Restaurant Sachi (13. August 2023)

The Sachi was rated quite high on Google Maps, so, I decided to give it a try. Given they hadn’t really figured the sequencing of our order, they started with the “Sachi style okoomiyaki” (CHF 18.00), which looked lovely, but frankly, was a bit too heavy, and not comparable to the way I’ve tried it in Japan. So, the start wasn’t the perfect one.

The “yellowtail sashimi, yuzu soy sauce” (CHF 24.00) was overall enjoyable. Somehow, I felt, though, that paying CHF 3.00 for a tiny slice of tuna seemed off. Sure, it’s not cheap to buy, and the quality was quite okay, but it still felt a bit expensive.

The “salmon sashimi, yuzu juice, sesame oil” (CHF 20.00) left a similar impression, but was actually quite nice to try as well.

The “wagyu shiso gyoza (5 pieces)” (CHF 38.00) were definitely too expensive, even if there was some wagyu beef in it. CHF 7.60 per gyoza is just off. I mean, they were good, but they were not even remotely that good that you would be willing to pay CHF 7.60 per gyoza …

Finally, the “black cod haru-maki, creamy yuzu miso sauce” (CHF 18.00) was a bit different than I had expected. Especially the fact that the dish was made with raw fish, instead of cooked one, was a bit surprising to me. In any case, it was an interesting bite.

The place is somewhat okay in terms of atmosphere, but really nothing special. Despite the fact that the restaurant is located in the Mandarin Oriental, the interior of the place is really not at the level you’d expect it to be. The staff is friendly and attentive, and makes sure you have everything you want at need at all points. The food is decent, but really didn’t blow my mind. On top of that, the prices are off. So, as a summary, thanks, but not again.
