A very sound Chinese experience in a simple setting: Restaurant Ping Sheng (15. August 2023)
This place was recommended too, so it was time to give it a try. I went for the “steamed meat dumplings ‘jiao-zi'” (CHF 8.00), which were actually surprisingly okay. To be fair, the place looks very simple, so, it is probably not a place I would have walked into, but I’m glad I did, as the dumplings were good.
The “spicy duck ‘szechuan'” (CHF 25.00) was quite a portion, and despite the fact that it combined a lot of strong flavours, it was nice. I liked the flavour profile in combination with the quality of the duck. And to be very fair, what surprised me most, was that the dishes were served quite quickly, and they were enjoyable.
The only thing I found a bit disappointing was the “fried rice with beef” (CHF 9.00). Firstly, I found the bowl of fried rice rather small, and, with that, overpriced. Secondly, it wasn’t too great in terms of quality.
The place is, as stated, simple, but it has its own nice atmosphere. The staff is friendly and makes sure you have everything you want and need within no time. So, all in all, the Ping Sheng is probably not a place I would have walked into by myself, but given it was recommended to me, I decided to give it a try, and it was a good decision to do so.
