A truly unique experience when you get a full fresh tuna to enjoy: all tuna series Nr. 13 – Bluefin & Champagne @ Restaurant Sala of Tokyo (31. August 2023)

| October 21, 2023 | 0 Comments

Taking about a unique experience when it comes to tuna, then you definitely have to try the “all tuna series” in the Sala of Tokyo! It’s an event, which happens once a year, and only has space for a limited number of people – and I get why. Firstly, the price is rather heavy – you pay CHF 350.00 for ‘all-you-can-eat tuna’ including champagne (all you can drink). And somehow it does feel like it’s justified after you know more about the event. The whole tuna was about 150kg, which is quite massive …

… and when you get to see how they cut the whole tuna open, it’s rather impressive! I mean, look at that massive animal, and all the lovely food you get to potentially have. And already here you can see the ‘different colours’ of the tuna and, hence, the different qualities of the tuna meat.

It’s amazing to see how they prepare everything – the many plates you will ultimately get served until you cannot eat any more and really need a break. But watching the sushi masters at their work is really impressive.

At first, you get some starter to get your palate going. And I suppose there, it’s really about a first round of food to get your tummy going before the actual tuna is ready.

Next in line was a “cold miso soup with a tuna ball”, and I must say, it was absolutely nice. Frankly, I think I’ve never had a cold miso soup, but it was definitely one to enjoy.

Next in line were “cold soba noodles with tuna sashimi” and while the sashimi was already great, I was quite positively surprised by the cold soba noodles. I mean, I’ve had warm/hot soba noodles in Kyoto and I absolutely loved them (to be fair, you could basically watch how they prepare your noodles, which was quite cool). But cold noodles? Let me tell you: Hell, yes!

Finally, it was time for the “sushi and Sashimi” selection to get started. All fresh from the tuna you can see above – and it was really a lovely experience of flavour and taste.

And there would be more and more coming – frankly, the best part was really that it didn’t stop, so I have no clue for how many rounds of tuna I went. But let me tell you it was a lot! It was so darn delicious that it was hard to stop!

So, it is definitely and absolutely an experience, one worth taking, and frankly, if it’s once a year, also one worth paying for. I mean, the whole thing is just impressive. And it is so damn delicious that I somehow want to go again. Once you see that this event will happen again, make sure to book your seats well in advance.
