A must-visit restaurant when you look for good food in Geneva: Restaurant L’Agapé (27. September 2023)

I have had a look at the L’Agapé a few times already, but finally I found the time to pay the place a visit. The place was surprisingly empty for a Wednesday evening, which is surprising because it is really a place worth visiting. Once you’re seated and have placed your order, which is relatively easy, since the menu is quite small, you are served a bit of bread. The ‘curry focaccia’ was airy, light, and delicious.

Given, I felt like trying a few things instead of having one large meal, I ordered three starters and started with the “pheasant and cep mushrooms (candied pheasant, mushrooms pickles & Forestier broth)” (CHF 18.00), which was absolutely delicious. The pheasant in combination with the cep was mouthwatering. The broth was nice too, but was lacking a bit in intensity.

What I found fascinating was the fact that they had also served different breads and among these, there was ‘beetroot bread’, which sounded exciting. However, it didn’t taste as exciting, as it had pretty much the taste of regular bread.

As a second dish I went for the “razor clams persillade and crackers (emulsified sea asparagus butter and citrus)” (CHF 19.00), and I must say that I was first a bit surprised about the size of the dish, since it looked rather small. However, it turned out to be not only enough, but actually absolutely great in taste.

Last but not least, I went for the “sausage in brioche (venison sausage, perfumed brioche, Porto sauce and autumn pickles)” (CHF 18.00), which was the perfect ending to a great culinary evening. The venison sausage was rich in terms of texture and flavour, and the overall dish just worked really well.

The L’Agapé should definitely be ranking high on the list of the Guide Michelin, as it offers delicious dishes in a lovely setting, and the service personnel is friendly and competent. Even though the place was relatively empty when I visited, I would highly recommend you to book in advance, just to make sure that you have your table when you get there.
