Delicious lunch offering with a bit slow service: Restaurant Monsieur Bouillon (28. September 2023)

The name of the place is hilarious somehow – I mean, come on, “Mr. Broth” is really the name you give your restaurant? To be fair, though, the place is lovely and the food they serve is actually great! Once you’re seated, you’re brought fresh bread with salt and pepper. Which I consider quite nice, but it would definitely have been much nicer if there was butter, a dip, a spread, or maybe just olive oil. Like that, you just get bread – like that.

As a starter, I went for the “poached egg, corn cream with hazelnut butter, ‘spianata’ and paprika tulle” (CHF 18.00), which was quite enjoyable and definitely something you would want to take more than one bite. However, that being said, the portion is a bit small for the price. And personally, I’m not too sure I liked the hazelnut bit in it.

As a main, I went for the “gnocchi with eggplant caviar, dried tomato and ‘burratina'” (CHF 30.00) and at first I was a bit sceptical when it came to the combination, but it turned out to not taste as dry as I had expected.

The place is quite lovely all in all, the only thing, which isn’t really optimal was the ‘speed of service’, i.e., it took them quite a while to bring the different dishes and when we tried to get the bill, it really took them ages until they realised we wanted to get the bill, and then to finally bring it to the table. Still, all in all, the Restaurant Monsieur Bouillon was a nice experience and can definitely be re-visited.
