Amazing experience at the sister restaurant of Disfrutar: Restaurant Compartir (12. October 2023)

The Compartir is the sister restaurant of the Disfrutar (which is number 2 of the world according to the San Pellegrino list ‘The World’s 50 Best’). So, I’m still very much intrigued to visit Disfrutar one day!

In any case, we went for the tasting menu (EUR 115.00 per person), which started with a few tasty and slightly sweet crackers to get your palate started.

Then, there was the mandatory “bread with tomato” and frankly, it was good. And it was actually that good that you would take another bite again and again.

The first official course of the menu was the “beetroot salad with Ajoblanco sorbet” and I must say it looked nice, but it tasted even nicer. The beetroot by itself didn’t do much, but the fact that there was a combination of different flavours and textures (for example with pineapple) and the sorbet of white garlic in the middle really added to the dish and made it quite a specific and interesting first course.

To me, the “cold flamed mackerel with black olive and a Gilda’s flavours” was outstanding. The flavours were of an intensity I enjoy a lot! On top of that, the combination of the different textures like the ‘fake olive’ and the relatively ‘intense taste’ of the mackerel really made a great dish.

One of their signature dishes is the “tuna cannelloni with Mediterranean flavours” and while it looked a bit surprising and not super amazing in the beginning, it actually turned out to be a delicious bite! The whole thing was enriched by elements like dried capers, pesto, and the caviar.

And you could just have that all on a “cracker” and enjoy it like that – and it was definitely easy to want more of it.

The next course was, again, of an intensity, which was quite unique. The “Escala anchovies with boletus, fir honey, and black truffle” managed to create a nice combination of the saltiness of the anchovies in combination with the mushroom flavour and the pesto. Lovely dish!

The “razor clams with artichoke juice, almonds and vanilla” are definitely not everyone’s bite! I enjoyed them quite a lot as the texture of the razor clam is an enjoyable one, but the artichoke juice in which they were covered is rather distinct – and not for everyone.

The “veal carpaccio with Port, foie gras and Idiazabal”, though, was exquisite. I mean, sure, the foie gras wrapped in veal (almost like a little taco) is not necessarily something all too common, but it was a great bite!

Another classic of good cuisine is the “pullet egg with potato foam and black truffle”. I have had that lately in quite a few different combinations, and while I was having the best one this year definitely in France, this was actually a super enjoyable version of it.

Next in line was another dish probably not everyone would enjoy. The “Catalan style scallops with chicken juice, potato and Iberic bacon” was again of a super intense flavour profile. The scallops were nice, not chewy (as is the case way too often) and really made a great dish with the chicken juice – reinforced by the bacon.

The portions are rather generous, hence, the last main course felt almost like a bit too much, but it was outstanding! The “lamb shoulder in confit with our salmorejo and ‘tortillas'” was incredible. The meat basically peeled off the bone, and it was so good and enjoyable, including the sauce in which it had been prepared! Like, you just wanted more and more. Personally, I didn’t get the salad part, and I was missing the spicy sauce (as you would usually have with tacitos). But other than that, it was an excellent dish.

As I’m not usually too much into desserts, I wasn’t too keen on the “Our ‘caprese'”, but it turned out that this was among the best dishes of the evening. It was really a decomposed caprese salad, and it was super nice as a combination of actual caprese elements and turning it into a dessert, where they would prepare the mozzarella as an ice cream. Loved it!

Last but not least, the last course of the evening was “liquid dark chocolates with red currant sorbet”. And while it was a nice finish, it wasn’t necessarily a dish I would have needed.

The inside of the place is quite lovely and definitely worth a visit. All in all, the whole evening is quite a bargain. In the end, you pay EUR 115.00, but you get all that food, water, coffee, and for a group our size (9 people) five bottles of wine (after that, you have to pay for additional bottles).

To me, the Compartir really lives the concept of ‘sharing’ (as the Spanish word for sharing, i.e., compartir, would suggest). On top of that, the service is friendly and attentive and even up for a joke or two! So, personally, the Compartir is definitely a place I can recommend visiting! Booking in advance is key though!
