Probably better for cocktails than for dinner: Restaurant La Catedral Cócteles y Antojitos (18. October 2023)

| December 5, 2023 | 1 Comments

It’s not so long ago since the La Catedral Cócteles y Antojitos has opened, so it was due time to give it a try. Once you’re seated you’re served a little alcoholic shot, but if you turn it down because you don’t want to drink alcohol, you’re not offered an alternative. Instead, you’re served some “totopos” after you’ve placed your order. As the name suggests, it’s good to come here for drinks, as that is really their stronghold.

We decided to go for various dishes to share like the “tostada virgen (vegan tartar on a crispy Masamor tostada, avocado ash, and seasoning)” (CHF 10.00), which looked a bit uneventful, but actually turned out to be a great bite.

The “Secreto Ibérico (Secreto Ibérico made on a wood coal grill, served with jalapeño-chimichurri, corn tortilla)” (CHF 25.00) looked a bit disappointing when it was served, but turned out to be actually super delicious. The meat was cooked to perfection, and the chimichurri really went well with the meat. Worth trying!

The “tartar de borrego (raw lamb sirlon, Jocoque seco, North Mexican seasoning, homemade totopos)” (CHF 25.00) was not the very usual kind of dish as I haven’t eaten raw lamb that often, but it went quite okay all in all.

The “Santo Avocado (freshly prepared guacamole with Maldon salt, avocado ash, and home-made totopos)” (CHF 11.00) plus “crab” (CHf 6.00) was nice. I mean, I liked the guacamole, and it went well with the totopos, but the crab really didn’t add anything to the dish (besides a bit of colour).

Somehow, the place is nice, but on the other hand, in all honesty, it didn’t blow my mind. Maybe I’m too influenced by the actual Mexican food in Mexico, or I’m too picky by now, but it was just okay, nothing more. I suppose, I’ll come back another time to try their cocktails since the dinner menu is rather small while the cocktail part is rather extensive.

    Guten Morgen Sven.
