A delicious 1-Michelin-star lunch experience worth trying when in Hamburg: Restaurant Jellyfish (28. October 2023)

| December 22, 2023 | 0 Comments

The Jellyfish was recommended by a friend of mine, and it has been on my ‘to try’ list for quite a while, but somehow I never managed. Finally, it was time to give it a try for lunch and once you’ve ordered your menu, you get a bit of “bread with wild garlic butter” in the form of a fish, which is all in all super lovely. The quality of the bread is nice, and the wild garlic butter is delicious.

Since I was in Hamburg, I decided to try something local like the “Norwegian herring with white pepper and wild garlic” (EUR 10.50), which was actually surprisingly delicious in its simplicity.

I decided to go for the “3-course menu” (EUR 49.00), which started with a “yellow fin tuna tartare, cucumber, red shisho, orange” (usually EUR 14.00), which did not only look beautiful, but also tasted beautifully. The combination of the tuna tartare with the cucumber ice cream and the red shisho sauce, turned out to be quite exquisite.

Next in line was the “Tom Ka Gai (catfish gyoza, kafir lie, chilli, coconut)” (usually EUR 12.00), which was quite nice. What confused me a bit that the waiter called the gyoza goyza, but other than that, I really liked the dish. The gyoza was nice in terms of flavour profile and texture.

As a main, I went for the “Norwegian salmon ‘confit’ (spinach, smoked beurre blanc, beets, potato blini)” (usually EUR 32.00), which was a lovely combination of different flavours and textures again. They really manage to make it a delicious assortment of ingredients, and their 1 Michelin star is well-deserved.

On top of the tasty food, the place is also great because the interior is appealing, the price is more than reasonable, and last but not least the service is also rather outstanding – they are super friendly and attentive, and make sure you feel welcome when eating here. I would highly recommend you to book your table in advance!
