A lovely lunch experience on a Sunday: Restaurant Oechsle (29. October 2023)
It isn’t easy to find a good restaurant, which is open on a Sunday for lunch, but the Oechsle is exactly that. Good and open on Sundays for lunch. I went for the “char (cucumber herb cream, tomato compote, marinated radishes, wasabi mayonnaise)” (EUR 16.50), which turned out to be quite exquisite in terms of flavour and in terms of texture combination. I especially liked the cucumber herb cream as it was super refreshing, and the tomato compote, as it had a nice intensity without the overpowering element of tomato you so often experience.
The “US beef onglet (beluga lentil salad, coriander spinach, bell pepper, mango and curry dip, chimichurri, port jus)” (EUR 36.00) turned out to be quite exquisite too. I didn’t really need the yogurt base in the back, but other than that, the dish was lovely, and, I do admit, I always like the texture of a good onglet.
What I liked a lot on top of that is how they dealt with my additional request to get “wild broccoli” on the side, and they didn’t even charge me anything for it, which I found quite surprising. In any case, the dish itself was great and is definitely worth trying.
The place is a bit remote, so you need to walk a bit or take a cab, to get here, but it is worth the walk, since the food is nice, the prices are fair, the service is friendly, and the interior is quite okay as well. I would say, for lunch you do not need to book in advance, but I’m pretty sure this changes once you get to the evening.
