Delicious Peruvian dishes in a sister restaurant of Astrid y Gastón: Restaurant Yakumanka (16. November 2023)

| January 11, 2024 | 0 Comments

The Yakumanka has been on my to-do list for quite a while, so finally it was time to try it out. Once you’re seated, they provide you with “fried corn and a spicy sauce”, which was a bit tricky to eat, but actually quite enjoyable as a little snack to get started.

I went for the “Tiradito of Autumn (maegre, lime caviar, bergamot, kaffir lime, creamy aji amarillo sauce)” (CHF 28.00) as my first starter, which was refreshing and light and was served in a nice sauce of leche de tigre.

Secondly, I tried the “Ceviche Mixto (sea bass, shrimps, octopus, squid, choclo rocoto, leche de tigre)” (CHF 28.00), which was nice as well. Personally, the shrimp didn’t need to be fried, but would also have been good raw or just cooked (personally, even better for a ceviche). But other than that, the dish was lovely.

As a last course, I went for the “Anticucho de Corazon (beef heart, classic anticuchera sauce, huancaina sauce, carretillero sauce)” (CHF 23.00), which was intense in flavour and overall fine. However, the ‘beef heart’ was prepared with a relatively intense flavour profile, which is definitely not for everyone.

What I liked about the place is the fact that the staff actually speaks Spanish and is super attentive and friendly. The atmosphere of the place is nice and you are feeling welcome from the first moment on. So, all in all, the Yakumanka is a place I can definitely recommend you to try. What is maybe good to know is that the concept is owned by Astrid & Gaston, which is one of the most famous restaurants in Lima. So, no surprise they managed to create a great place also at the other end of the world. The only downside is the price, as it is definitely not cheap to have dinner for CHF 100.00 for one person for two ceviches and four beef hearts.
