An absolutely outstanding Italian dining experience: Restaurant Gabbani (23. November 2023)
I have only been to the Gabbani for coffee, so I was more than curious to experience the Gabbani for dinner. As a starter, I went for the “mozzarella di bufala with cherry tomatoes and basil cream” (CHF 27.50), and with the generous application of olive oil, the dish really is a great starter into the evening.
Since I have definitely never tried this combination, I decided to go for the “nettle tagliolini, aromatised foamed lemon balm and green tea butter with tartare from Mazara shrimps” (CHF 36.00). In a nutshell, it was interesting. The flavour and texture of the tagliolini were nice – but it lacked the ‘al dente’ of good Italian pasta. What didn’t look too appealing, the tartare on top, actually turned out to be a great match with the tagliolini.
What I like about the restaurant – on top of the generally good food – was the size of it, since it provides you with privacy, and on top of that it has a nice wine cellar, which you can enter to pick your wine.
Last but not least, the service is very friendly and professional – so, it is really a place where you feel comfortable, are attended well, and the food is great, and relatively fair in terms of price. So, the Gabbani is definitely more than a place to grab a quick coffee in the morning. Make sure to book your table in advance, as else you won’t find space.
