A lively Italian experience, but kind of lacking that little extra, food-wise: Restaurant La Baracca (24. November 2023)
To me, the La Baracca is always a reliable location for a nice Italian dinner – it is crowded, a bit loud, but it offers great food in a very lovely atmosphere. However, especially for Italian food, the price is quite steep. As a starter, the choice was the “tartare di fassona con fonduta di Parmigiano Reggiano e funghi Porcini saltati in padella” (CHF 32.50) and I must say, it was delicious. The porcini were amazing, and the cheese actually worked incredibly well – I had not expected that.
The “tortellini ai cacio e pepe” (CHF 28.50) on the other hand were a bit of a disappointment. Firstly, the portion was relatively small for a main course (although one could probably argue if a ‘primo piatto’ is to be considered a main course). It was tasty, no question, but to me, it was much more ‘burro e salvia’ than cacio e pepe. Especially if I compared it to the bite of cacio e pepe I’ve head a day earlier, as this was definitely exquisite.
The “cheesecake with salted caramel” (CHF 12.50) was surprisingly great to me, since I love salted caramel. The cheesecake part worked well as it wasn’t too intense and balanced well with the salted caramel.
The staff is friendly and attentive, the place is nice, and the food is good. Compared to the Gabbani where I had been yesterday, I was missing a little bit of the ‘extra’ in the dishes, and I found it comparatively expensive.
