An exquisite wine estate with a super qualified sommelier: Wine Tasting @ Vrede en Lust Wine Estate (4. December 2023)

| January 27, 2024 | 0 Comments

The Vrede en Lust is one of the estates, which is worth visiting because it is a nice combination of not being overly populated by tourists, but still offering an amazing view and a superb property. When you enter the place, it’s already super appealing …

… and once you’ve been seated for your “Black Label Tasting” (120 ZAR) with a Barrique, the Kogelberg Chenin Blanc, a Pinot Noir, the Boet Erasmus, and the Cabernet Franc, you’re ready to dig into the “Ploughman’s Platter (Foxenburg Chevin, Dalewood Simond, Dalewood Winelands Cam Petite, beef biltong, salami, rosemary ham, pickles, Kalamata olives, beetroot chutney, bacon jam, crackers, and fresh bread)” (350 ZAR) as well, which does not only offer South African delights like biltong, but also more unusual spreads like bacon jam.

The “fresh bread”, which is served with the platter, is exquisite. There isn’t really enough if you want to eat the whole platter, but the thing is definitely amazing.

What I truly love about the place is the light design, which is creating a feeling of comfort.

When you’re sitting on their terrace off the main house, you get to see that beautiful mountain in the background, but they also manage to make the place fun to walk in …

… by placing a few funny signs on the way in.

So, all in all, the Vrede en Lust is an amazing place, a lovely estate, offers decent wines, has great service, especially the sommelier did an outstanding job, but comes with one issue, since you have to pay the wines separately from the food, which is kind of ridiculous from a guest perspective, especially, since it takes much longer that way.
