A decent location to enjoy the view of the sea shore: Restaurant Pavilion @ The Marine Hotel (5. December 2023)

| February 1, 2024 | 0 Comments

The Marine Hotel is definitely what one would call a Grand Hotel – located right next to the sea shore and with a view to see the whales (if they are around), this place is very lovely in terms of design. Sure, it is a ‘grande dame’, but this doesn’t make it any less appealing since it has been renovated to not look as old. Once you’re seated in its restaurant, The Pavilion, you’re served “bread & butter” which are nice and enjoyable.

Given the place is located right at the sea shore, I decided to give the “The Marine signature fishcakes (boutique mixed salad, sweet chili)” (125 ZAR) a try, and I must say, they are quite decent. Sure, they are nothing to run after, but they are tasty and work well with the two sauces (off picture) they are served with.

As a main, I went for the “craft beer battered hake (home-made tartare sauce, triple cooked chips)” (225 ZAR) with “mixed garden vegetables” (55 ZAR). And I must say, all of it was actually absolutely good. What I liked most, though, were the garden vegetables, as they were fresh and aromatic, i.e., perfectly seasoned.

The staff at the restaurant is friendly and attentive, although not to the extent you’d wish for, as sometimes it takes quite a while for them to realise that you’re done with a plate and ready for the next one. In any case, the place is lovely, and if you get a “front row table”, you also have a view of the sea. Not worth the drive, but if you’re in Hermanus, then it is definitely a place you can visit!
