An overly vast, but delicious food offering with a view onto the river: The Riverside Bar & Restaurant (21. December 2023)

The Riverside Bar & Restaurant had been recommended by the hotel and had a good rating on Google, so I decided to give it a try. As a starter, which was in the end served in the end, I went for the “Tom Ka Gai (chicken and lemongrass in coconut milk soup)” (175 THB), but forgot that they serve things in family size, but luckily they have smaller bowls, which allow you to share the soup. For me, it was a bit heavy on the coconut side, but it was still a very enjoyable soup.

The “grilled pork with lemon, garlic and chilli sauce” (175 THB) was labelled spicy (with two chillies), but it didn’t feel all too spicy really, but had a nice flavourful combination of ingredients to make it a tasty and flavourful dish with a nice spiciness.

The “grilled beef spicy salad” (175 THB) on the other hand was on the rather spicy side of things, but it was this nice and truly enjoyable spiciness, where you would feel like you would just want to have more and more of that.

The “charcoal grilled Chiang Mai sausage” (200 THB) was one of my highlights, I hadn’t expected. The sausage was nicely seasoned and overall incredibly flavourful. A dish you could definitely order a second round of, if we hadn’t tried so much different food.

Another element, which truly surprised me, was the “Panang Tofu (tofu in red chilli paste and coconut cream)” (150 THB) as I usually find tofu semi-appealing, but this was actually delicious. The tofu was smooth, had a nice texture, and the curry, in which it was served, was delicious as well. Hence, a surprise for the evening.

The “whole steamed ‘Pla Tubtim’ (ruby fish) in lemon and chilli sauce” (355 THB) wasn’t all too bad either. There were just way too many fish bones in the fish, which made eating it a bit tricky. But other than that, the flavour profile was quite lovely.

The “chicken fried rice” (75 THB) …

… “with cucumbers” was a nice add and worked well to combine with quite a few different dishes.

The place is super busy and there are tons of people, but the atmosphere is still nice …

… especially if you’re seated by the river.

So, all in all, The Riverside Bar & Restaurant was a positive surprise since it really offers good food for a very fair price and has a great location. On top of that, the staff is friendly and comparatively swift. Make sure to book a table in advance, as else you won’t stand a chance to find a place to sit.
