A lovely rooftop bar with a strong wannabe vibe: Mai Sky Bar @ Melia Chiang Mai (21. December 2023)
As previously mentioned, it wasn’t easy to find a decent bar in Chiang Mai, but we were lucky that finally we got across the Mai Sky Bar, which is located on the 22nd floor of the Melia hotel. If you’re a hotel guest, it’s easy to get up there. If you’re not and want to ensure that you have a place to sit down and enjoy that drink, then I would recommend you to book in advance. I went for the “Flor de Sauco (gin, triple sec, elderflower infuse, cranberry juice, syrup)” (350 THB), which was rather uneventful in terms of flavour profile.
However, the staff is friendly and attentive and makes sure you have everything you want. I personally find them a bit too submissive in their attitude, but at least they are friendly, professional and attentive.
What is nice is the bar itself, which is technically located on around 2.5 floors …
… and the view you have. I mean, the view itself isn’t spectacular, since there isn’t anything too spectacular to be seen from afar in Chiang Mai, but it is still a nice view over the city.
All in all, the Mai Sky Bar is a bit of a ‘wannabe’ place, since they strategically position people at tables to make it look more crowded and most people were constantly on their phones or taking pictures while up there, but it is still one of the better bars in Chiang Mai.
