A must try when in Vietnam, ‘Bún Chả’ or ‘The Obama Dish’: Bún Chả Bình Minh – Nem Cua Bể (22. December 2023)
Secondly, it was time to try a very typical local dish, called “Bún Chả” (40’000 VND), which is also called ‘Obama Dish’, because Obama tried the dish when he had visited Vietnam during his presidency. The dish is relatively simple – somehow kind of soup with veggies in it, and you dip your noodles in it. It’s simple, but it’s tasty.
The noodles are just served like this, and you warm them up and add the flavours through dipping it in the soup.
There is also garlic, chili, lime, and salad leaves on the table. Not sure how fresh and food safe all of this is, but it is tasty, for sure.
The “spring roll” (10’000 VND) is rather greasy, but it isn’t bad – especially if you dip it in some sauce.
The “cake” (10’000 VND) – not entirely sure of what it was made – is somewhat okay, but has a bit of an interesting texture.
The place is simple again, this time you get to sit on another set of very small tables, and if you want to use the restrooms, you really need to make sure that you are not sensitive to smell and the like.
However, if you ever want to try “Bún Chả”, then I would recommend you to try it. Not sure if it has to be here, but you won’t go wrong here.
