A decent rooftop bar, but with super slow service: Solar Sky Bar @ GM Premium Hotel (24. December 2023)
I found the idea of a rooftop bar quite nice, so we found the Solar Sky Bar in walking distance to where we had dinner planned. The idea was to grab a quick drink within a few minutes to ‘kill the time till dinner’. Well, it turns out that this idea didn’t quite work out, since the preparation of the drinks apparently takes at least 20 minutes. In any case, once the “Greeny Cloud (Son Tinh Nep Phu Loc infused Jasmine, pandan, homemade green liqueur, pineapple juice, lime juice)” (259’000 VND) finally arrived, we had to down them in a few minutes, which was rather annoying.
While the staff is super friendly and really tries their best, it’s the same problem here as in so many places, they don’t really speak English, and apparently, the task of ordering sparkling water is a close to impossible task. I tried this so many times, and it always takes them ages to understand – or they don’t at all. Or they come with San Pellegrino right away. It’s either black or white. What surprised me quite a bit was the fact that they would make sure to write everything down we had ordered, repeat the order, and then still not bring everything, BUT put everything on the bill. Weird.
The view is quite okay – I mean, Hanoi isn’t a pretty city from above, so there isn’t much to see, but it is interesting to see the city from above, hence, it’s worth visiting the place. I would recommend, though, do this when it’s still bright and when the smog levels are lower! And don’t expect too much.
