A great restaurant with a few areas to improve in the kitchen delivery speed: Restaurant The Grill @ Sheraton Grand Danang Resort & Convention Center (28. December 2023)

After spending more or less a whole day in the cold, we decided to have dinner at the hotel and went for The Grill. Transparently speaking, expectations were low, but they were definitely achieved and overachieved. Talking about the interior first, the place is a typical hotel restaurant – so, not really that amazing, but nice and functional and somewhat comfortable. That being said, once you’re seated, they serve you “bread and tomato spread, butter, and olive oil with balsamico”. The bread is warm, so the start is a good one.

Then, they serve a little welcome from the kitchen. This evening, it was a “seafood wonton”, which was nice, but rather crispy.

I had ordered the “corn chowder”, but somehow got served the “creamy seafood bisque soup (prawn, clams, mussels, smoked paprika cream)” (328’000 VND). And since I was quite hungry and wasn’t really keen on waiting, I didn’t complain. The seafood bisque was actually quite okay. Frankly, not the best one I’ve ever tried, but a good and enjoyable bisque.

On the other hand, the main course, i.e., the “tenderloin, Australian Black Angus MB2 (350gr)” (1’328’000 VND) with “Sauce Béarnaise” (140’000 VND) was great. The meat was superbly tender, the temperature was perfect, and the flavour profile was amazing. The thing, which wasn’t too amazing, was the missing Sauce Béarnaise. I mean, they had just forgotten about it, so I had asked for it, and it was ‘speedily’ prepared, which was 10 minutes into my dish, so basically, there wasn’t too much meat left. In any case, once served, it was actually tasty and enjoyable.

The “French fries” (118’000 VND) were exquisite. They were not fatty, oily, or stroppy, but actually had a nice bite and were crispy, as they should be. The “creamy spinach” (118’000 VND) was definitely something different from what I had expected, and personally, it wasn’t really to my liking. There was way too much cream involved in this, and not enough spinach. However, it wasn’t bad.

Finally, once you were done, you would get a “palate cleanser drink”, which was nice. Also, since it took them that long to prepare the Sauce Béarnaise, they had taken it off the bill.

All in all, I must say that the service is exquisite. They all are incredibly friendly and attentive – and really make sure you have everything you want and need. Even the water, and I drink water quite quickly, is refilled on a truly regular basis so you would never feel like you’ve run out of water. Amazing, really!

What is quite amazing, if you’re an Ambassador member with Marriott Bonvoy, they offer you two complimentary drinks per person, and we had them in The Grill, where the drinks were definitely much better than in the La Plage, and the staff is so dedicated and friendly that you just want to return. Plus, the “Rau Ram Inspire (Beefeater dry gin infused green chili, Grand Marnier, lime juice, ginger, rau ram herb, coriander)” (178’000 VND) was really enjoyable.

So, to sum it up, besides the breakfast buffet, you should definitely try The Grill when you’re staying at the Sheraton Grand Danang Resort & Convention Center – they make sure that you get great cuts of meat with delicious sides and close to perfect service. If only the kitchen was a bit more on top of timing.
