A nice Kaiseki experience on the 67th floor with a not so nice metal surprise: Restaurant Tenku – Japanese Modern Kaiseki & Bar (2. January 2024)

| March 31, 2024 | 0 Comments

The Tenku is located on the 67th floor of the Landmark 81 building, so, you have a nice view over the city. What is quite amazing is the lunch offering you get here. If you go for the “Wagyu Lunch Menu”, you end up paying 667’000 VND for that, which is about CHF 25.00, which is quite exceptional for the location and the quality of the food. The lunch starts with “bread, tomato butter and some cereals”, which is a bit surprising, since it doesn’t really serve any concrete purpose, but surprisingly it kind of worked together with the sweetness of the brioche.

The lunch offering is quite nice since you get a bunch of things on a try, so, a typical Kaiseki offering consisting of “Wagyu Steak”, “Hokkaido Tomato Salad with blue cheese sauce”, “clam miso soup”, “Japanese Chawanmushi”, “six kinds of mini side dishes”, “rice” and “panna cotta” and surprisingly enough, all the dishes were actually superbly enjoyable.

On top of that, you get to pick a tea with your menu. I went for the “Rice Tea” (usually 90’000 VND), which was not entirely to my liking, but in terms of making it a “good deal”, this definitely adds to the overall experience.

What wasn’t so great was the piece of “metal”, which was located on one of the pieces of wagyu.

The place is quite nice, but it was super empty at 1.30pm, which was a bit surprising …

… especially since the view is quite beautiful. I am not quite sure how they ‘survive’ looking at the prices and imagining the amount this place must cost to rent.

In any case, if it wasn’t for the piece of metal in the food, I would highly recommend the place, but this is, obviously, a no-go, hence, I would give it a ‘reserved’ recommendation.
