21. October 2011: Ristorante Luna Rossa

The “Insalata di mare” (seafood salad) (EUR 9.00) had different seafood: tuna, shrimp, and crab, as the name already suggested. The salad was good, diversified, and rich in taste. There was no salad sauce as always in Italy but of course you were free to put olive oil, vinegar, salt and pepper. Although EUR 9.00 seems like much for a simple Italian restaurant, it is absolutely fair for what you get offered.

What is truly amazing – is the Pizza Peperonata EUR 6.50. It has a lot of toppings: spicy salami, pepperoni, cheese, tomato, and I ordered anchovies in addition. The pizza is quite great in taste – the crust could be a slight bit stronger but besides that, it is absolutely amazing. Taste: Great; toppings: generous; size: epic. The pizzas are larger than the plate (and the plate is quite big already) and the waitress already asked us if we wanted to split it or have it all by ourselves. And frankly, EUR 6.50 for such a pizza is just “for free”.

As a desert I had a Limone Ripieno (EUR 4.00) which was basically a lemon filled with lemon sorbet. It was quite okay, the sorbet was good in taste but the whole thing was frozen a bit too much. Also, the desert is comparatively expensive if you compare it to the price for a pizza.

The waitresses are friendly and very helpful. They even remembered my company who has been there already once about half a year ago – quite impressive I would say. While the service is nice, the place has one little problem: lack of atmosphere. The interior is very simple, nothing much with decoration, and well, it’s just a simple pizza place.

The Ristorante Luna Rossa is not the nicest place to go (interior-wise) but it is definitely a great place to go: amazingly large and very tasteful pizzas almost for free, friendly and helpful waitresses, and last but not least, it is just a good place.

Close to the Ristorante Luna Rossa you can find a bunch of other restaurants in the navigli area which are also quite recommendable: Ristorante Officina 12, Ristorante Il Pellaprat, Ristorante La Tradizionale, Biancopensare Bar, or the Ristorante Acqua Sala.
