26. October 2011: Restaurant Das Blaue Haus

| October 28, 2011 | 0 Comments

The Restaurant Das Blaue Haus is a well-known place in Münster. And I understand why now: They have something called “Pfefferstück” (which is German for piece of pepper but much more means pepper steak; EUR 5.40). The meat comes pretty much with the meat only and that’s fine but at least the meat is surprisingly good. The steak was medium done, the meat was quite tasty, and the pepper crust was good too. And all that for only EUR 5.40. Truly unbelievable! To stay fair at this point though, the whole pepper steak is not overwhelming but it is absolutely okay!

The service on the other hand is a bit understaffed. I had to wait for more thant 20 minutes for the steak, and at first, it was brought to the wrong person too. So, only after I had success in fighting for my steak, I finally got it. Generally, if the place is packed, then it is not recommendable to go there as you will have to wait way too long until you get anything. On the other hand, when the place gets a bit emptier or everybody has had their dish, service goes quicker.

Location-wise das blaue Haus looks way better from outside than from inside. Outside, the facade looks absolutely nice, while on the inside it is an old, dark-wooden, typical German restaurant. Not that it has no atmosphere, but it is somehow more built for little people, and secondly, it was also a bit smelly (due to the fact that the toilets did not work properly). Still, I guess, if they manage to fix that problem, the place is quite nice.

Overall, the Restaurant Das Blaue Haus is okay to have some dinner – nothing to say against that. It is not a fancy place but for a city like Münster where students are a main determining factor of the nightlife, the place is definitely nice and the steak was good and cheap too.
