31. October 2011: Restaurant Topolino
The pork cutlet with salad (CHF 18.50) was pretty good. The meat was tender and somewhat juicy. The salad was pretty good too as it had a lot of different parts (carrots, cabbage, green salad, etc.) and the sauce fit pretty well. Absolutely a healthy and good dish.
For desert, I had a “Espresso Hit” which consists of a cup of Vermicelles and an espresso or coffee for CHF 9.50. I asked for a double espresso instead and they changed it for that without charging anything in addition – somewhat generous which you would usually not experience in Zurich (or at least not that often). The Vermicelles was good, the whipped cream on top did not seem to fresh but besides that, the desert is fine. What is too expensive for my gusto is the mineral water as you pay CHF 5.80 for 0,5L non-bottled water.
The service was very friendly and also quite quick – what made the thing somewhat suboptimal was the fact that the service was not aligned. While my company had his starter, I had nothing which was fine as I did not have a starter but when they took off his starter plate, I got my main dish and only about 4 minutes later, my company got his main dish. I think it is not asked too much to serve the dishes at the same time. Besides that, they do not accept credit cards (or even EC cards) or at least did not at this point in time – in my opinion a no-go too, especially nowadays as having cash on you is less and less usual. Still, the waitresses who served us were very friendly and competent besides the two mentioned points.
The atmosphere is nothing special. It is nice and clean but that’s about it. Also, the tables are pretty close to each other so the privacy-factor is comparatively low. But it is definitely okay. Also, the prices are quite fair for what you get and even more for Zurich.
All in all, I can recommend going to the Restaurant Topolino for lunch – the dishes are good, the service is friendly, the atmosphere is okay, and the price-performance ratio is absolutely good!
