3. – 4. November 2011: Restaurant @Hotel Eichenhof

| November 10, 2011 | 0 Comments

I had the chance to have three meals at the restaurant in the Hotel Eichenhof. The soups which were served were okay, nothing special but eatable. Somehow they were okay but on the other hand they were pretty boring in taste.

The quality of the main courses varied – quite a bit in my point of view. The “Westfälisches Zwiebelfleisch” was quite okay and also tasted good although it was not my preferred meat quality but as I do not know the dish and how it should be in its original way, I have to say, it was quite okay.

The meat of the second day was somewhat better but that might also have been because it had quite some heavy sauce with mushrooms. The “Kroketten” were quite okay too. Overall, the dish was better than the first day but not really that great either.

The main course of the third time was definitely not that outstanding. The fish was not having any taste, the rice was definitely not fresh (although I must admit it looked fresher on the plates of others). This course was definitely below average.

The deserts were eatable but the fruit which were put came from the can and were not fresh. In my opinion, if you serve a desert, then you should use fresh fruit. But well, as I said, eatable but that is it.

One great surprise were also the quality of the dish was absolutely good was the fish platter which was served the first evening about two hours after dinner. The fishes were fresh, they tasted absolutely good, and the variety was nice too.

To summarize it, the dishes are not outstanding but there are other elements which make it not so bad to eat at the restaurant in the Hotel Eichenhof. The family Denk which runs the hotel is very friendly, very cooperative, very helpful, and very nice. So, the service is great and the atmosphere is very nice too. The dining room is basically the entrance hall but it is very nice as it is entirely held in wood which provides you with a feeling of warmth. What I cannot judge on is the price as it was all paid for.

Overall, I have to say, staying at the Hotel Eichenhof in Greven is an okay experience because the service is very nice, the atmosphere is nice too. Unfortunately, the dishes are not that outstanding. So, I can say, if you are staying at the Hotel Eichenhof, it is absolutely okay to dine there, if you are not, I personally do not consider it worth going there for eating.
