14. November 2011: Restaurant Atelier Gourmet

| November 19, 2011 | 0 Comments

The first course of the menu was a “Parmesan mousse with pecan, winter salad, and pomegranate vinaigrette” (EUR 13.50). While the whole dish tasted good, the parmesan mousse was somehow not fluffy and light enough. But it was good in taste and the pomegranate vinaigrette was really tasteful.

The main dish was a “Jewfish au gratin from the Corsican coast with French artichokes and parsley foam” (EUR 23.50) and let me tell you that dish was great. The fish was yummy and juicy, the artichokes in artichoke mousse were rich in taste, and the parsley foam was delicious. The single components of the dish perfectly fit together. Truly outstanding.

The desert was a “Mango soup with rum-foam and mango sorbet” (around EUR 7.00). While the mango sorbet was absolutely refreshing and tasty, even topped by the rum-foam which was just so delicious you immediately wanted more, the mango soup (which was more of a cream) was just not as good as the other two components. It was not particularly bad but it apostatized compared to the other two elements.

The “Créme Brûlée” (around EUR 7.00) was quite okay but I definitely have had better crémes brûlées before. Still, it was okay.

Overall, the dishes were definitely good but one has to say that they were quite some differences between the courses and the components within the courses. Overall, the menu was fine though, especially considering that you get the three courses all together for EUR 36.00 (starter, main, desert).

I am not sure about the atmosphere of the Restaurant Atelier Gourmet. On the one hand, the place is pretty nice as the dining room is pretty small and so are the tables. Also, the general interior design seems to fit together but on the other hand I somehow did not entirely feel comfortable. Maybe it was also because the light was definitely too bright – it should be dimmed and it would definitely look better.

The service was very good. This French restaurant is run by an Italian couple which is a bit ackward at first but to be fair, they do their job of being Frenchies quite good. They are very friendly and courteous, having a good timing when to take the empty plates and when to bring the new ones, when to refill the wine, etc. Also they did not really through us out or hurry up when we were the only guests left in the restaurant. One thing is not so great though which they imported from Italy. It is common to pay a cover charge in Italy and they imported this conceptual part to the French restaurant in Munich – both a French restaurant and Munich are not places where you should have this (although it is only EUR 1.00).

The prices for beverages like bottled water (EUR 6.20), a grappa (EUR 7.20), a double espresso (EUR 3.20), or a bottle of white wine (EUR 29.50) are quite fair. Overall, I can recommend going to the Atelier Gourmet because they dishes are good in general and have great elements, the place is nice but a bit too bright, the service is very good, and the prices are absolutely fair.
