20. November 2011: Restaurant Golden Dragon
The evening started with an amuse bouche “rack of veal” which was tasty and promising for the rest of the evening. We had to wait a bit until it was brought to our table but at least when it was brought, we were able to order.
The idea of having two different dishes at a Chinese restaurant is definitely a good one as you get to try different dishes – number one was Crispy Beef (CHF 31.00). The crispy beef was quite good but frankly, it was more “fried something” than fried beef. But still, it was quite tasty.
The Beef Szechwan (CHF 31.00) and the Fried Rice (CHF 7.00) were quite good too. While the beef was only limitedly spicy for the fact that it was considered “double spicy” in the menu, it was rich in taste. The fried rice on the other hand did not taste like much. Still, the combination of the two (and also the fried rice with the crispy beef) was absolutely tasty.
At the end, we got a plate with chocolates which were tasty too and of course the fortune cookies would not be missing – and they both said “Take a break!”. Besides the chocolates I had a double espresso (CHF 5.60) and a Grappa Roccanivo (from Berta; CHF 15.00 for 2cl) but luckily the waitress gave me 4cl, so the price is almost okay.
The interior of the Restaurant Golden Dragon is very appealing – while everything is held in dimmed light, the design is dark and is an interplay between grey bricks and black wood, making it dark but very atmospheric. Absolutely nice, providing you with that feeling of cozyness and privacy while everything seems noble.
The waiter was very friendly and helpful, definitely almost perfect, but the time we had to wait until he realized that we wanted e.g. additional water or to re-fill our wine glasses was definitely too long. Still, all in all, a very good service and most important, very friendly and courteous.
Overall, the dishes are pretty tasty and rich and, furthermore, also big enough so you have eaten enough when leaving the restaurant. The prices are pretty okay for Switzerland, also considering that an Amaretto and a Martini Bianco only cost CHF 6.50. The wine we had for dinner was a bottle of Gergenti IGT, 2006 (CHF 46.00) which fit quite good to the dishes.
To sum up: I can recommend going to the Restaurant Golden Dragon to enjoy good Chinese dishes for quite high prices in a very nice atmosphere being served by talented waiters – having some room for improvement.
