23. November 2011: Restaurant LaBaracca

| November 25, 2011 | 0 Comments

A great experience which started with lamb’s lettuce, cherry tomatoes, bacon, and croutons (EUR 4.90). The salad was fresh, the bacon intense in taste but not oily at all, and the croutons crunchy and tasty.

As a main course I had a pizza with goat cheese, asparagus and mushrooms (EUR 7.90). While the pizza is not very big, it is also not really like a pizza regarding the dow but much more like a Tarte Flambee. It was very tasty though as it was very light and the toppings fit very well together. Definitely not what I would usually call a pizza but very tasty indeed.

As a desert I had a selection of different deserts including chocolate cake, tiramisu, some kind of créme which was served with an espresso and some kind of grappa (EUR 8.90). The deserts were definitely tasty, the tiramisu was not the most outstanding one but it was definitely good in taste. The cream was great, the chocolate cake too chocolaty for my personal taste but great nevertheless (as most people would probably love the chocolaty-flavour).

Overall, the dishes were very good and tasty and absolutely fair in price – also the prices for wine (a bottle of Barbera d’Alba, 2007, EUR 25.00) and water (bottled water San Pellegrino, 0,75L, EUR 5.50) are more than fair. The dishes have their originality and are absolutely great in taste – cannot exactly put the finger on the spot to say why they are so good but they absolutely are!

The whole interior is very interesting – the atmosphere of the whole place is very nice as it is a wide open space somehow and you are just randomly seated at a table where already a bunch of other people are. So, you get in touch with others if you want to or not – there are just long tables with an average of about 10 to 12 seats for the benches. Overall, it creates this feeling of coziness induced by the fact that you are sitting like a family (although you might have never seen the guys around you before).

The concept of how to order is also pretty interesting – when you enter you get a card (like in e.g. Vapiano) which you then have to place on the “key symbol” on the table which is linked to some kind of iPad (it is not really an iPad but a similar device) and you can then order you dishes and drinks directly via the pad. So you get to order as often and as much as you want and the dishes are then directly brought to your table.

The waitress who brought us to our table (it is highly recommended to make a reservation – we were just lucky as we went in pretty late) was very friendly and nice. The waiter who then served us the dishes was not so friendly in return – it seemed that he was just generally pissed off. Not so nice really but as he only had a serving function and no other interaction was necessary (because you pay at the cashier’s when you get out), it was not really that bad.

Overall, I can definitely recommend going to the Restaurant LaBaracca – the concept is cool, the atmosphere is great, the dishes are absolutely tasteful, the prices are more than fair, and on average the waiters and waitresses are okay too (guess we had the bad-mooded guy that night). Very important: Make a reservation in advance, otherwise you wont really have a big chance of getting a table.
