20. December 2011: Restaurant Bellaria & Wine Bar

| December 21, 2011 | 0 Comments

The starter of the set menu (for GBP 17.50) was a bean soup which was quite okay in taste. The taste was intense and the beans were pretty good overall. Still, the portion was rather – unexpectedly – big.

As a main course, I had a salmon filet with lemon, grapefruit and rucola. The salmon filet was very tasty, fresh somehow and also flavoury. The rucola together with the fresh fruit made the dish very light and, therefore, also very tasteful.

Finally, the desert was a coco cream of wheat with lemon and strawberries accompanied by chocolate sauce. The cream of wheat was very fine, the strawberries astonishingly fresh and the chocolate sauce intense and fit the cream.

Overall, the dishes in the restaurant Bellaria were good – nothing overwhelming but straight forward and good. The atmosphere in the restaurant is quite nice but the tables are very small and everything is very close to each other so there is almost no privacy really. Secondly, if you are eating upstairs, then you have to be resistant to cold wind as the door opens about every 2 minutes and when it is cold outside you start freezing right away.

Besides that, the waitresses were very friendly and nice. They were a bit uncoordinated though – we were asked if we wanted desert by three different waitresses. A bit too much for my personal taste. Additionally, but there I would say the chef is to blame, it takes quite some time until you actually get served – waiting time between the courses is very high.

Price-wise, you cannot complain as the set menu is definitely good and only accounts for GBP 17.50, a double espresso costs GBP 2.75, a whole bottle of water only GBP 3.75. Finally, you can find decent wine (e.g. a bottle of Barbera Piemonte for GBP 21.50). And of course, what you should not forget is that they add up 10% Service Charge on the whole amount.
