7. January 2012: Restaurant Franzé & Evans
I know it is a crime to eat a burger in a place which is famous for its salads but still, I just did not feel like salads for breakfast. Therefore, I had the “beef burger with sauted onions and fries” (GBP 9.25). The fries were not really outstanding – also, usually you get the Fries with Mayonnaise and Ketchup (according to the menu) but the mayonnaise was missing. In any case, the burger would have the perfect parts but unfortunately the meat was pretty dry and on the other hand still pretty bloody while not being juicy really. A bit of a disappointment to be honest. To be fair though, I tried the soup my friend had and that one was pretty good.
The place itself is pretty nice – it is quite small (maybe max. 20 people), it is quite crowded, has the nice concept of sharing tables (so you do not necessarily get your own table but are seated with others at a table). The waiters are friendly but – as the owner (being Italian) – extremly disorganised. Somehow there is no responsibility assigned, everyone is wandering around (there were 4 waiters including the owner) for the place, but still somehow no one was there at some point. You have to place your order at the counter which my Italian friend did, standing there and waiting for one of the waiters to ask what we wanted while three of them were standing in the back, not moving at all.
Overall, the Restaurant Franzé and Evans is famous for its salads and given the fact it was pretty crowded, they are obviously good, but from my personal experience and the burger I had, it is not that recommended. Also, you have to be capable to deal with Italian organisation – quite unorganised one. But it is definitely a nice place and also not too expensive.
