7. February 2012: Ristorante L’Antipasto Nuovo

| February 10, 2012 | 0 Comments

A true Italian place – in all imaginable ways. We started with a plate of “Prosciutto Crudo” which was truly amazing. The taste was intense, perfectly smooth and just overwhelming. The portion which was serves was just about big enough for two and the grissini were not all that fresh. But definitely great prosciutto crudo.

The second plate was a “Piatto antipasti misti” – the selection was quite nice and the antipasti were absolutely good too. Somehow the originality of the selection was missing a bit. There was nothing outstanding. All was prepared on a high level but there was no surprise (in either direction).

After the two starters, we switched to the actual main courses (if you want to call them like that). The first was a white fish with a herb crust on vegetable ragout. The fish as tender and juicy, the crust was intense with its herbs and the vegetable ragout was rich and had the oriignal taste of vegetables.

A truly amazing primo was the spaghetti with fresh tuna, lentils and tomatoes. The combination itself was good and very fresh – and it fit great with the perfectly al dente cooked spaghetti. It is truly long ago I had pasta which was cooked so perfectly to the point. Delicious, I must say.

Our last main, or rather our secondo, was a tagliata di manzo con patate e rucola (aobut EUR 17.00). The rucola bed provided the whole dish with the necessary feeling of healthiness, the potatoes were good but the tagliata di manzo was truly amazing. The meat was perfectly tender, had the right temperature but was on the other hand just quickly cooked on both sides so the inner was perfectly red – truly stunning taste.

In order to almost finish our meal, we had a selection of dolci. On one hand, there was a panna cotta which was good, some créme brûlée which was quite tasty and some sort of cake which was also quite good. Being not such a big fan of sweets, I have to say, they were good but not outstanding.

To round up – besides Grappa from Nonino and a double espresso – we were served a nice selection of cheese with chutney and bread. The cheeses themselves were not really outstanding but I have to admit that the combination of the different kinds of cheese was good. The parmeggiano with acceto balsamico, the soft cheese, the chutney and a regular hard cheese – each by itself nothing outstanding, but given the variety, quite a good combination.

To sum it up, the dishes at the Ristorante L’Antipasto Nuovo are definitely great. Especially as you usually do not find something like that outside of Italy or at least rather seldomly. I mean, the dishes are often quite good in Italian restaurants but seldomly reach this finesse like in this particular place. So, I can definitely recommend going to the Ristorante L’Antipasto Nuovo for the food.

But the food is not the only reason why you should go to the Ristorante L’Antipasto Nuovo – the place is run by an original Italian and it is exactly like it is in Italy. He is friendly, helpful, all your friend for the whole evening – and he tries to sell you more and more during that time. We have spent there quite some time and the place was – in the end – open three hours longer than their usual closing time (usually closes at 10pm). The atmosphere is so truly Italian, the decoration is really nice, as one side is basically a huge glass front, the other side is nicely decorated with a good selection of different Italian wines, and because the place is rather small it gets quite crowded. After some time the music starts playing, tables are moved a bit and one starts dancing.

So, the Ristorante L’Antipasto Nuovo is definitely a great place, food-wise, atmosphere-wise, crowd-wise, and entertainment-wise. Overall – you should go, it is truly great. To be entirely fair, I cannot exactly judge on the prices as I was invited but I have to admit that the place is probably not exactly cheap. But it is – I can assure you that – definitely worth the price as it is maybe a bit expensive for German relations but what you get for the money pays back.
