14. February 2012: Restaurant Zen
The sushi platter which is served in the Restaurant Zen is truly great. Although it is not the best sushi I have had in my life I must admit that the sushi and sashimi served is pretty good. Especially the fresh tuna and salmon taste great. Overall, I can absolutely recommend the platter with the limitation that 6 sushi cost around EUR 9 (so the platter you see is actually four portions which makes the whole exercise not that cheap but ideal to share it).
The atmosphere in the Restaurant Zen is very nice, there is a little Zen garden in the center, the place is spacious, open, nice, light is dimmed in the evenings but in general it is just a nice place. The service personnel is very friendly but it takes them quite long to bring the sushi. At some point they got a bit annoyed because they wanted to close as it was already close to midnight but honestly you cannot expect one to eat your plate within 10 minutes after one had to wait about 30 minutes until the dish was served.
All in all, the sushi is a bit pricy but I can definitely recommend it – so when you are looking for some Japanese food when you are in the area of Bogenhausen, I can definitely recommend you to go to the Restaurant Zen. On the other hand, it is not that outstanding so one would go there just to have the sushi.
