19. February 2012: Ristorante Totó

| February 24, 2012 | 0 Comments

In order to start into the day with a hearty breakfast the “Colazione Piemontese” (100gr hand-cut beef tatar, one egg with bacon, a small basket of bread and a glass of prosecco; CHF 38.50) is the right thing to pick. The bread was served first with a good selection of different jams and honey.

The variety of bread was okay but not overwhelming.

The tatar was actually hand-cut which, I think, you cannot find that often anymore and the meat itself was good. The only problem was that there way too many capers so it was tasting too strong like capers. The egg and bacon were done properly and fine, the additional bread on the plate did not really make sense though (maybe it was thought to be used with the beef tatar but it was more bread than toast like).

In any case, overall the breakfast was good – not overwhelming but sound and good. Still, charging CHF 38.50 for it is quite costly. The mint tea was made of fresh mint leaves (CHF 5.00) and was great – but extremely small so you could barely fill a second cup.

The atmosphere in the Ristorante Totó is generally nice and the service is good. They bring you what you order and also they did not make any trouble when I wanted to change a few things in my breakfast.

To sum it up, the Ristorante Totó is a nice place and has good dishes but it is not a typical brunch place but more a regular restaurant. The service is good in general but charged us one tea too much. The atmosphere is nice but the whole thing is also a bit costly. All in all, okay, but not really the best brunch I have had.
