23. February 2012: Restaurant Schumann’s Bar

| February 25, 2012 | 0 Comments

Restaurant Schumann’s is apparently famous for two things. One is the unfriendliness of the waiters and I cannot say it is fully untrue. My company knew most of them so they were also quite nice but what I generally realized around me, friendliness is definitely not their strongest point. The other thing Schumann’s is famous is the roast beef with roasted potatoes (EUR 17.50).

Although I was a bit disappointed at first when I saw how small the plate was, I must admit, the roastbeef was great – it came with a pepper sauce and some horseradish and it fit perfectly well together. The roasted potatoes on the other hand were really nothing special but just regular roasted potatoes. Also, the portion over all was quite small (roastbeef and potatoes).

As initially stated, the service was efficient but not really friendly. The atmosphere itself is somehow very nice as it is lively, always packed, but on the other hand, it is quite dark and quite loud. So if you want to talk, then Schumann’s Bar is not necessarily the right place to go. Still, the whole concept makes it quite nice.

Schumann’s bar is also famous for a third thing, for its drinks – or actually more than for its food. One of the barkeepers invented the “Swimming Pool” drink in this exact bar. I tried a “Moscow Mule” (EUR 11.00) which was great in taste (vodka with fresh ginger). You should definitely try it when there. While the prices for drinks are reasonably high (given that they are famous for that), regular beverages like beer (EUR 3.50) or a glass of wine (EUR 7.00) are okay. The price for the roastbeef is quite high but okay too – only the side dish (potatoes) was really not overwhelming.

All in all, the Restaurant Schumann’s Bar is a nice place which is packed, lively, somewhat famous, offers a sound dish but has generally quite high prices – and do not expect to be treated friendly there as most likely you won’t be treated friendly. Other than that, recommendable although I cannot outline why exactly. If you decide to give it a shot, make sure you actually book a table in advance.
